Marketplace content is pretty light today so we’ll ge that out of the way first:

• Kane & Lynch Fragile Alliance: Walk in the Park Trailer: Get a feel for the Xbox Live multiplayer component of the brutal new shooter from the developers behind Hitman. Sounds interesting this – you’re part of a band of bank robbers and you need to steal cash, then decide which of your associates you should do over – and which you should ally with! Free and available everywhere. 
• Tomb Raider Anniversary DLC: Download the updated versions of Lara’s first adventures. There are two chunks both priced at 1200 MS Points to this, and you’ll need a copy of Tomb Raider: Legend to download and play them. 

More importantly, today marks the start of Xbox Live Presents Xtival ‘07! It’s the world’s biggest free gaming festival, and it starts at noon. From then until noon on Monday Xbox Live Gold will be free to everyone, and there’s a whole raft of quality events, competitions, tournaments and fun happening over the weekend to keep everyone busy. Xbox.com has all the details, but you should definitely check out this little lot:

• Xtival ‘07 Community Tournaments: Check out some of the amazing tournaments and events that our Xbox Community Network sites regularly hold – you’ll meet some ace people, enjoy some cracking competition, and come away with a Friends List full of new folk.

• Xtival ‘07 Stewards: Feeling lost? Need some good advice? You need to talk to an Xtival ‘07 Steward! These guys are some of the friendliest and most knowledgable people on Xbox Live, and they’re ready to be your friendly face in the crowd!

Everybody loves a good festival weekend, right? But once the crowds have dissipated and the acts have unplugged all you’re left with are damp clothes, a muddy tent and some (mercifully) foggy memories. All that’s set to change later this month as the three day Xtival ’07 comes to Xbox LIVE allowing gamers to enjoy all the excitement and vibrancy of a festival event from the comfort of their armchair.

From Friday 23^rd until Monday 26^th November every Xbox LIVE user will be given a free Gold membership for the duration of the weekend. In addition to this remarkable act of generosity, everyone is also invited to take part in a series of events and activities on the service.

For example, on the Friday there’s the ‘Developer Jam Session’ competition in which gamers can take on the team responsible for Project Gotham Racing 4. On Saturday wannabe rock stars will be able to shred at Guitar Hero in head-to-head competitions with some famous celebrities while on Sunday you’ll be able to show off your skills in some of the system’s top sports titles, from Tiger Woods, Table Tennis, Virtua Tennis and Forza 2 through to Pro Evolution Soccer 2008.

Throughout the weekend you’ll be able to demonstrate your eye for beauty/destruction by entering a Halo 3 art competition and recording stunning videos or taking expressive snapshots using the game’s unique theatre mode.But perhaps most intriguing is the news that designated ‘mystery gamers’ will be flooding the service, mixing incognito with players, clutching fistfuls of Microsoft Points ready to deal out to talented, funny or exceptional opponents. The combination of free Points and no mud or fresh air is surely something no gamer will be able to resist. See you in there!
